Connectbeam announces Spotlight Connect for SharePoint
Connectbeam Enhances Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Collaboration
BOSTON, Mass. - May 9, 2008 - At today's kick-off of the Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston, Connectbeam announced Spotlight ConnectTM for SharePoint, an add-on module for its flagship offering, Connectbeam Spotlight. This extension provides integration of functionality from its innovative Enterprise Social Search and Discovery Application into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Availability for the add-on module is planned for July.
Office SharePoint Server 2007 is a popular choice among businesses allowing distributed teams to collaborate, coordinate and manage important initiatives more efficiently. Now, via integration with Connectbeam, this important tool becomes even more intelligent and valuable by leveraging the "social metadata" that is generated naturally as employees interact with information and colleagues. That is, each person's tags, bookmarks as well as relevance rankings of those indicators become available and useful to everyone in the organization, all from within the Office SharePoint Server 2007 platform.
"The fact that Connectbeam allows the capture and use of actual day-to-day and historical human experience in an organization (in conjunction with their central tag repository) means that when paired with SharePoint Server 2007, all the promise about collaboration can actually happen… naturally. As an enterprise license holder of both Connectbeam Spotlight and SharePoint, we're pretty excited about the possibilities." according to Thomas Chapin, Director, Knowledge Management, WBB Consulting in Reston, Virginia.
Integration such as that between Spotlight and Office SharePoint Server 2007 is important to Microsoft and demonstrates the increasing value of tools that help people work together in a natural and practical fashion, as spelled out in Microsoft's press release today. "Microsoft is excited about its relationship with Connectbeam. We expect the combined functionality to provide added dimension to the collaborative and information discovery capabilities of SharePoint," said Deb Bannon, senior product manager for SharePoint Server 2007.
Connectbeam Spotlight gives employees across the company not only a platform for finding highly relevant information and documents quickly, but also for discovering the people and expertise behind that content. Spotlight makes the social metadata, the data that describes the experiences and knowledge of colleagues from across the company, accessible to everyone through a central tag repository.
"The combination of these two platforms gives people in any job at any company great reach across their organization… now within SharePoint Server 2007 you can see not just how 'person A' is related to you, you can see how their knowledge and experience might be of help to you" says Farsheed Tari, Connectbeam's Senior Director of Product Management. "Spotlight Connect for SharePoint extends and enhances the native collaboration capabilities within SharePoint Server 2007 and provides a single destination for discovering relevant information and people through connections you didn't even know existed."
